Joana Saahirah of Cairo dancing baladi improvization
A bit of my "baladi" mood.
´Cause Oriental Dance is so much more than just performing a few ondulating steps.
The whole range of colors is overwhelming (classical, modern, baladi, shaaby, tabla madness, folkloric styles, you name it...it´s a WORLD of moods, movements, feelings, characters: SOUL).
I´ve always been lucky with my musicians: most of them were, until now, the most talented and generous people I´ve ever met. I´ve also been blessed with a special ear* (may God protect it) that tells me when a musician is worth keeping or not.
This one - although a mafioso in "real life" - was one of the accordeonists that worked with me and see how HE DOES IT. We are improvizing 100%, of course. Check out the feelings, the ups and downs, the different intensities and moods...gotta love these guys!
