“Alexandre Bordalo´s NEW PHOTO GALLERY – “Woman in red…me!”
*** I love photography. In fact, I love beautiful things and people, art, anything that moves my eyes, perspectives, heart, soul into unexpected directions. As far as I understand it, Photography is just another tool enabling us to see reality through the eyes of an artist who will reveal something with an image and, hopefully, freeze a moment in time so that some events last forever even after we´re physically gone from this material world. In the end, it´s just a naïf attempt of fighting against time or mocking at it while creating the illusion of an instant that was caught on camera and can never be lost.
***I love photographing but, most of all and not knowing exactly why,I love being photographed. I guess there is a bit of ego, vanity, a deep even childish desire to last forever and, ultimately, a need –not so unconscious! – to be appreciated, admired, loved. I am a suckerf or love, I admit it. It has been my self-assumed “karma” and I am not ashamed to say it: for as much as I love myself, I am the eternal Don Juan, always searching for the real love, the real thing…somewhere around the corner…(I think I found it!)When someone is photographing you, all the attention is on you and the world just goes away. There is a private, invisible conversation between you – the photographed object – and the photographer. When Iam being photographed and at ease , I say silent things I could never express by words and, in a strange way, I feel understood andcherished like when I´m receiving a long, slow, heartfelt kiss from mylover. That´s how much I love being photographed and yet…not by anyone
.
*** While I was in Portugal, I had the pleasure to make a shooting fora friend of mine, Alexandre Bordalo, who had photographed me for several magazines all over the years. It was a family session, very fast and fun! His wife was there assisting him as well as some other members of his family and my percussionist, Hosny.Alexandre is preparing an expo of his work and asked me if I would be one of his models. The rule was to dress red and that´s all I did.Despite the simplicity of the shooting and absolutely no photoshop treatment on the photos – a very refreshing approach and a change in relation to those familiar plastic faces most photographers are producing these days – the result was very nice and reflected the atmosphere of the session: cosy, relaxed, joyful and warm!
